Rededicating Myself to the Financial Game Plan: A Journey Reignited
Life has a way of getting in the way of our best-laid plans. I had set out to create a financial framework inspired by the game of football—a structure that would help people, including myself, understand money management through a lens of offense, defense, and strategic play. I was excited, motivated, and ready to tackle this challenge. But somewhere along the way, I let life’s demands pull me off course. I got distracted.
Distractions are a funny thing. They seem harmless at first—small diversions of attention that steal away moments of our time. But those moments can add up. Days turn into weeks, and weeks into months. Before we realize it, we’ve drifted far from where we wanted to be. For me, those distractions weren’t just little things. They were responsibilities, my current business, daily demands—the noise that I let drown out my goals. I allowed these things to control my time, instead of letting my goals be the reason to push harder.
One of my favorite quotes from a coach of mine is, “Excuses are like assholes, we all have them, and they all stink.” As true as it is blunt, it reminds me that any reason I give for not pursuing what I truly desire is just another excuse. No matter how valid I think my excuses are, they still fall short when faced with the fact that I’m letting myself down. My reasons for not acting might make me feel justified in the moment, but ultimately, they’re still just excuses—and I refuse to let them win anymore.
Recently, a high school teammate of mine, Dathan, commented on my initial post about creating this financial framework. He reminded me of the fire I once had for this idea. It wasn’t just a comment; it was a wake-up call. In that moment, I realized that I had let the dream slip away. I had let five months pass without making progress on something I deeply cared about. But here’s the thing—I’m grateful. Grateful for Dathan and his reminder, grateful for someone in my corner who isn’t afraid to hold me accountable.
So, here I am, writing this new post not out of obligation, but out of a renewed sense of purpose. I’m pledging to myself, to Dathan, and to anyone else who has been following along, that I will not let this dream fade into another forgotten goal. Instead, I will do the work, day by day, to bring it to life.
From this moment on, I will be making a daily post on my blog to continue expanding on this football and money framework. I will share the strategies, the concepts, the wins, and the challenges I face along the way. This journey will be about more than just creating a financial system; it will be about resilience, dedication, and learning how to push through distractions.
Football has always taught me that the game isn’t over until the final whistle. You play through every quarter, every minute, with full effort. Life is no different. I want to live with that same determination—to apply that same mentality to building this financial framework.
Thank you, Dathan, for refocusing my vision. Your comment reminded me that it’s never too late to pick up where you left off, to restart the game, and to finish strong. It’s time to rededicate myself to this goal, and I couldn’t be more determined to get it done.
Let’s get back to the field. It’s time to play.
